At American Waste Septic, we want you to avoid the need for emergency septic services by properly maintaining your septic system throughout the year. To prevent the need for emergency septic services when you least expect it, we recommend the following:

  • Have your system inspected regularly—It’s a good idea to let us come and inspect your septic system on an annual basis. This can prevent the need for emergency septic services by catching minor issues before they turn into major, costly problems.
  • Don’t wait to pump out your tank—When your septic tank needs to be pumped, don’t put it off! Otherwise, you could compromise your septic tank’s ability to process wastewater effectively and end up with an expensive, smelly mess on your hands. Generally speaking, you need to have your septic tank pumped every three to five years.
  • Maintain accurate records—To make any needed septic maintenance and repair work easier on yourself, keep a diagram of where your drain field and septic tank are located handy, as well as a record of any maintenance work and repairs you have done. If you ever decide to move, make sure this information is given to the next owner.
  • Practice water conservation—The more wastewater your home produces at one time, the more strain you put on your septic system. If you make water conservation a priority, you can decrease the possibility of system failure and even extend the lifespan of your drain field.
