Mop Cleaning Dirty Foot Steps — Greenville, SC — American Waste Septic

Your children or your family pet comes in from the yard and leaves wet, muddy footprints throughout the house even though its been days since it rained and the sprinklers haven’t been running. You are perplexed, so you go out to investigate and find you have wet patches in your yard that you hadn’t noticed before. What could be the issue? Here are some of the reasons this might be happening:

  • Broken Pipe – You could end up with wet patches in your yard if you have an underground pipe that has burst or broken. It could be an incoming water line or an outgoing drain line. If you also have an inflated water bill, it is probably a water line. If it smells bad too, or you notice your home’s drains are slow or gurgling, it could be a drain line going to your septic system.
  • Drainage Issue – You could have wet patches in your yard that are closest to downspouts if they are not properly diverted for draining or that area just doesn’t drain well. If it has been an unusually wet season, this can happen. If it hasn’t been wetter than normal and you haven’t noticed this before, it probably is something else.
  • Septic Issue – In addition to a broken pipe, you could have a septic tank or drainfield issue. It could be time to have your septic tank pumped and serviced or you could have a more serious problem. It is important to call a professional promptly to avoid further contamination of your soil and perhaps even the groundwater.
